Casa Dame at night, string lights glowing over the carport and the pool in the foreground

Casa Dame

A two-bedroom house with a saltwater pool in Esterillos Oeste, a five-minute walk to the beach.

Esterillos Oeste · Puntarenas · Costa Rica
The House

Two stories of tile, timber and tropical garden, steps from the Pacific.

Casa Dame sits in the quiet beach town of Esterillos Oeste. Walk five minutes to the sand and La Sirena, the mermaid statue on the rocks, then come home to a saltwater pool under the palms.

Downstairs is open and easy: a fully stocked kitchen with a gas range and breakfast bar, a living room with a smart TV, and a covered porch with a gas grill that looks onto the pool and lawn. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with a king bed and one with a queen, opening onto balconies over the treetops. The second bedroom doubles as an office with two remote workstations set up and ready to use. The beds sleep four, and two air mattresses make room for up to six. Every room has air conditioning, there's a free washer and dryer, and the Wi‑Fi is very fast. The pool is shared with one small guest house on the property. In the evening the string lights come on over the carport and the pool glows turquoise. The property is gated, and a neighborhood security guard is on duty overnight.

Esterillos Oeste

A small beach town on the central Pacific

An often uncrowded beach with several surf breaks, for longboarders and shortboarders alike. Tide pools around La Sirena at low tide. Horses on the sand and monkeys in the trees.

Esterillos Oeste is quieter than its neighbor Jacó, but close enough for restaurants, surf schools and nightlife when you want them. Mornings start with surf or a walk to the mermaid, and the sun goes down over the water most evenings.

Beach days, waterfalls and jungle adventures

Some of our favorites, from the beach at the bottom of the hill to day trips down the coast.

In town

  • Surf the beach

Esterillos Oeste is a surfer's beach. The breaks are to the left past Hotel La Sirena. Swimmers can play and body surf in the first wave break, but take care: some areas have rip currents and big waves.

  • Tide pools

Volcanic rock pools form at mid and low tide, right at the bottom of our hill and to the right. Float in them, or bring a mask and snorkel and explore.

Best at mid to low tide

  • La Sirena

The famous mermaid statue sits in the water in front of Hotel La Sirena. You can walk out to her at mid and low tide; wear shoes.

    5 min walk

  • Walk to Punta Mala

A national reserve about 3 km along the beach to the right, with tide pools on the way and monkeys in the trees. Go on a low or outgoing tide and bring water, hats and sunscreen.

    About 3 km each way
